9-HOUR INTENSIVE SEMINAR IN NEW YORK CITY
Close-Embrace Then and Now - May 18-19
Luis and I are excited to return to NYC for our yearly visit on May 14-29! We will be available for private lessons throughout our stay and are also offering an intensive 9-hour seminar and pre-milonga classes and performances:
INTENSIVE SEMINAR
We invite you to an exploration of classic and modern techniques for dancing in close embrace.
On the first day of the seminar, we will start from the foundations of posture, core, dissociation, walking and pivoting, examining critical techniques that create stability, comfort and space in close embrace.
With the foundations in place, we will explore options of vocabulary for close embrace and how to use improvisation to multiply our possibilities. Special emphasis will be placed on breaking the symmetry in the leader's and follower's movements, and how this creates new opportunities for musical interpretation.
On the second day, we will explore advances in technique in the last 20 years, showing how they can be incorporated in close embrace to create a dance that is more dynamic and "twisty". Suspensions, drops and smooth changes of speed will become effortless through proper use of elasticity and weight. Movements apparently requiring superhuman dissociation will become reachable with the right techniques.
